Street Fashion - Emo Fashion

You might be wondering, why am I writing about emo fashion? What is emo anyways? Emo fashion has been catching my eye for a while. Like I posted in the last blog, I love combining black with tons of colors and I think that is definitely what has me loving it.

Ok, here's the deal. Emo is a type of music that supposedly evolved from punk rock. It's short for emotional, since the songs are usually about broken hearts and strong issues and problems. The thing is that, just like punk had its own dress code; emo is doing the same. Emo fashion is mostly characterised for bright colors and black, skinny jeans/pants, converse or skate shoes and messenger bags with lots and lots of pins. There are different subdivisions in the emo fashion culture:

Indie Emo
  • Faded, tight shirts with random logos bought from thrist stores. Vintage tees also work fine. Oh and Hoodies are a must have!
  • Skinny jeans or pants. You can cuff the hems a bit.
  • Converse sneakers! Black and blue low sneakers are the best.
  • A black messenger bag with tons of pins, patches, ribbon.
  • Lots of accessories. Beaded stuff, chains, bows and make-up.

Nerdy Emo
  • V -neck tees in solid, dark colors and band tees that you buy in shows.
  • Dickies pants in black and gray, or you can still wear skinnys.
  • Black converse and argyle socks.
  • Black Messenger bag with patches and pins.
  • Pointdexter Glasses with black frames.
  • Accessories like pen holders and such.
Dressy Emo
  • Pea coats in dark colors or hoodies can also do the trick.
  • Slacks
  • Skinnys jeans/pants.
  • Dr. Martens boots, converse and other black shoes.
  • Black messenger bag with few pins and patches.
  • Accessories like scarves, star necklaces, bracelets and earrings, pointdexter glasses and such.
There are other things that also give you an emo look. Haircuts and make-up play an important part in the look, but that we'll discuss in another post!

Tell me are you into it? Is it appealing to you? I'd like to know. Take care and until next blog!

  8. Emo was originally started in the 80's as a type of off stream punk music. It reffered mostly to the emotional sense of things, unlike most punk rock music. That's why some people think of Emo as standing for Emo Hardcore, and Emotional. Either one is correct.

  11. The word “emo” is truly broad! Aside from fashion, I can say that it is about life, and personality of a person. This word is come from the word emotional. Today, the meaning of “emo” has a lighter side and has its own identity for fashion. For me, this fashion is truly elusive and loud! Usually, we can see emo girls and boys wear big eye glasses or nerdy glasses, have dyed hair, and usually wear black clothing. I think this fashion is the reason why big frames have become popular in every style. You know in my hometown Indianapolis, most optometrists clinics have lots of trendy frames. With that you can enhance you vision, and be stylish at the same time.

  13. Fashion is a lifestyle you could share to anyone. In relation to music,"emo is often used more generally to signify a particular relationship between fans and artists, and to describe related aspects of fashion, culture, and behavior". Enjoy emo lifestyle.Just ignore those people who doesn't like your way of living. You're life lies on your own hands.
