Castles, Sand, Sea and Enchantment...

This is Old San Juan, the lovely capital city of the little island of Puerto Rico. No wonder they call it the Island of Enchantment; spend a few seconds in this marvelous city and you'll be transported to the times of castles and Spanish architecture. No matter how many times you visit this place, you'll always find something different; no visit is quite like the last believe me, and I'm luck enough to live only 15 miles away from it!

Today was my 4th yr anniversary (my bf and I are in pre-school, lol), so we went sightseeing and then to lunch to celebrate!

I'm Wearing:
Top: Charlotte Russe white shirt and Rave pink print layer top
Bottom: Old Navy denim shorts
Shoes: Pink Glittery Converses
Accessories: Headband, Necklace & Button Bracelets by FunnyPeopleCo (aka my shop)

These are just some little snapshots I took while running around...

Vintage wears Polka Dots!

This morning I discovered this sweet neon vintage sweater and instantly fell in love with it and just had to buy it! The price was great (only 12 bucks) and I bought it at the same lovely shop I got my boots from. I'm planning on using it with the boots, some black tights I got from Claire's a while ago and a neat belt. I'll post some pics when I get the ensemble together! =D

Living a Dream in Pastels

Close your eyes and imagine a beautiful room full of your favorite flowers all in pastel colors, think about beautiful silk and tulle fabrics delicately laying and decorating the place. Imagine the sweet smell of honey or candy or anything of your liking. Sounds like a wonderful place, huh? A gorgeous dream of which you don't even want to wake from. This is the feeling what Tim Walker transmits in every one of his pictures. His fashion photography is just simply dreamy, sweet and glamorous all in one! It's like trapping the essence of a dream in a piece of paper! I was read about him in another blog (I actually forgot which blog, I read lots of them, lol) a few months ago and browsing around I stumble upon his lovely work, and decided to share his work with you all.

Fashion Around the World - Paris Street Style!

Tonight, I'm a bit tired. It was a pretty long day at work updating and correcting all my students papers (yep, I work at a tutoring center *giggles*) and it was awfully busy because it's the end of the school year and all. So, I'm just relaxing checking out some online magazines and found some really neat stuff on ellegirl.com that I just had to share with you all. You all know I'm a total fan of street style and fashion, and this is definitely one of my fave subjects to blog about! These pics of lovely Paris street fashions captivated me so badly, I wanna go there and be part of it myself. Lol, now in reality I'm going to have to save a few bucks to afford the trip; imagine how lovely it must be to hang around sweet Paris with a camera, taking pictures of all beauty that crosses my path, *Sighs* To just dream...

How to wear Chuck Taylor Converses -a.k.a my fave shoe ever!

I remember the first time I had a pair of Chuck Taylor Converses in my hands. I was 14 yrs old and wanted them to wear with my plaid and dull school uniform. They cost me only $25.00 bucks. I got them in black, (soon after that I saved my allowance to get more colors!) and believe me, I wore those with everything, even for church on Sundays (yes, that drove my mom insane!).

The purpose of this post is to show you all, (if you are as Converse crazy as I am, or maybe not that much of a fan) how to mix and match them for any occasion, that is, if you are comfortable being the center of attention wherever you may go!

Ok, for Gals:
  • Chucks look sweet with skinnys! Grab a pair in any color and mix them with your fave pair of jeans and a comfy t-shirt. This is a great outfit for a day at the mall, hanging around town or if you want to feel comfy.
  • Chucks look awesome with mini skirts and leggings/tights! Go wild combining them with wacky colored leggings or tights and a denim mini skirt. If you're not into denim, plaid or even tulle skirts (tutu's would do awesome) will make you a star!
  • Chucks look great with your school uniform! Ok, use them only if your school's dress code permits you. Get accessories that are of same/contrasting colors to make a statement and have everyone's eye on you!
  • Chucks look dreamy with dresses too! Try this if it suits your personality, because if you are a glam, girly girl your friends and family could not recognize you, lol. Dresses look best with low Converses and cute ankle socks.
  • Chucks look lovely with your wedding dress! I know, sounds totally insane. But, browsing around I found this adorable bride wearing Chucks embellished with rhinestones! Be creative and unique!
Now, for Guys:
  • Chucks look great with shorts! Low Chucks make great accents for khaki or denim shorts and comfy knit tees. Combine them with some white socks and a cool cap and you got an adorable guy next door look!
  • Chucks look great with a tux! And suits also! Team them up with jeans, a nice button up shirt, a great black slack and a wide wrist watch and get set to turn some heads over!
  • Chucks also are great for guys school uniforms! Find some neat watches or bracelets, even a necklace with a guitar pick will give you a skater flair.
A great place to find cheap Chucks (I know they are at like almost $50.00 a pair) is ebay. Don't be afraid of shopping second hand, you can find great treasures that way!

I am now part of Independent Fashion Bloggers!!! - and some more babbles

One of the most exciting things that can happen to a fashion blog is being accepted in Independent Fashion Bloggers community! And, Diary of a Young Designer is officially a member! Independent Fashion Bloggers is a great site (you're fashion blog must be approved for admission) with loads of blog info and advice. It's also a site to meet and connect with other fashion bloggers. So, it's definitely an incredible honor to be admitted!

I got a new hair cut yesterday! Ok, I was debating for a few months whether to chop it all off shoulder length (my hair's pretty long, around my waist) or just give it a nice little trim with new layers and maybe some bangs ( can't live without bangs, I've had them my whole life!). I took the indecition with me to a new hairdresser my boss recomended (I've never had anyone else but Super Cuts cut my hair, but I thought a change of place would be good) and she didn't let me cut my hair short! We can say my decision was made for me, but I'm glad I didn't cut it short - my new hair cut is awesome! I came home after that and ironed it myself - and burned myself like 12 times! But it came out great, I'll post some pictures later today as soon as I get them out of the camera.

Fashion Around the World - Sweden in the Eyes of Linnéa Bovik

My love for style and fashion makes me curious about fashion perspectives of people around the globe. I want to learn how others that share my same passion view the style/fashion world and how fashion feels in a remote (to me) place. So, one of our sweetest fans (lol, she's a lovely fan of our headbands) accepted my invitation to interview her for this blog post, isn't that wonderful? So, lets chat about Fashion Around the World, Swedish style in the eyes of Linnéa Bovik!
What is fashion like in Sweden, are there any special fashion trends?
We dress very minimalistic here in Sweden. Most of the people here only dress in white and/or black. Since we are careful with colors we concentrate more on what we have on us. It is not surprising to others if you come to school wearing a long dress, heels and hollywood curls.
If you use jeans they should be skinny jeans from the Swedish brand Cheap Monday.

Who do you consider most fashionable in your country: kids, teens or adults?
It varies from person to person. I guess the older teens or the adults.
I get the most inspiration from the people of my age up to perhaps... well, for example, my Godmother, about 50+, dresses in Chanel, Hermès etc. and I often get inspired by her.

As a young designer, what trends influence/inspire you
more, and which do you follow?
When I was younger, I followed all the trends. Now that I have grown up and become older, I just follow the trends that suits me. I would today never buy anything that does not suit me in terms of color, my body etc.
My style is pretty similar throughout the year. I often wear a dress in one color together with black tights and you can always see me in bows and/or ruffles. Then I take some trends as accessories. I always use white gold/silver jewelery because I don't suit in gold. This spring I'm most glad in the Balmain collection and would like to find similair shoes or the jackets with the shoulders.

What are you wearing right now?
Well, today I got up at 9 a.m. because I had an appointment with my seamstress but when I came back home I went straight to bed. So now it's 1 p.m and I'm sitting in a nightgown, a chiffon robe and rollers in my hair.

What would you LOVE to be wearing right now, if you had the money to go on a big shopping spree?
First of all I would buy a pair of Christian Louboutins pumps. The black one with the red sole. Then I would by a new Hermès birking bag in white, now I have one in smurf blue. Then I would buy my dream dress in white from Marchesa, or a long dress in chiffon from Lanvin ss08.
The bag and the dresses would not look good together but those are the items I want the most right now.
Any great designers in Sweden that you admire?
Diana Orving, Stylein (Elin Nyström), Ida Sjöstedt, Acne (Jonny Johansson) etc.

History of the Mini Skirt/Dress - Summer 2009's hottest trend

The mini skirt and mini dress made their first appearances around the mid 1960's as a street fashion. They became popular around young women, and soon after great designers were starting to make it part of their haute collections and wedding designs!

This summer is bringing back that 60's flower power feeling, inviting us all to forget about layers and sweaters and open out hearts to tights, skirts and that girly girl feel. So, go scavenger hunting in your mom's or granny's closet and see what treasures you can find; the 60's are back!

Now personally, I don't like wearing mini skirts without tights or leggings underneath. If you are like me, and are going crazy just thinking that we will be invaded by mini skirts in stores everywhere and there is nothing we can do to stop them, I'm giving you a few tips to make this style yours so you can make the best of this trend:
  • consider layers - try tights/hoses/knee-high socks underneath if you don't want your bare skin to show, go for neutral colors, it will create the illusion that you are showing some skin and it will add some sweetness to your look.
  • try micro mini skirts or dresses with jeans! Yep, I love to do this one. Find some micro minis and combine them with your fave tee and some jeans -skinnys work best- and some sweet flats or sandals and you are ready to go!
So, are you glad the 60's mini skirt fashion trend is back, or are you gonna hide in your closet 'til it's over? I was gonna try the hiding thing, but then I came up with these cool ideas that I used to put to use back in high school, lol.

Lollipops, Cotton Candy, The Circus and some Tulle (and some extra babbling)

It's around 9:06 pm right now, and I've been working on the blog for a while. As you can see, I added a few new things to the left column. There are some cute new links to my shop and to my myspace and facebook pages, there's a cool list of blogs I stalk and now you can subscribe to my blog if you like! So, I can finally say I'm comfortable with how my blog feels right now.

Talking about feeling, it's been raining like crazy here and I'm feeling just like a rain cloud feels, glum and gray. That's why today's little inspiration oasis is putting a smile on my face! It's all about sweet summer days under the warm sun, sharing candy and balloons, wearing frills, skirts and tulle!

Shoes I Would NEVER be able to wear!!

Browsing around reading of beautiful new shoe trends for this summer, I came across an old blog post with some of the most extra-ordinary shoes I have ever seen. Ok, I to be honest am not a high heels kind of girl. I tried - I really did - to learn to walk with them but I guess I was just born to wear flats for the rest of my days!

However these shoes that I saw made me feel so happy that I was not a model in N.Y. Fashion Week Runways. But, as beautiful as they may be -I personally think they are cool - are they functional? I mean unless you are a model and are constantly needing to make an impression in the fashion world, would you wear these? I'm not sure who designed them, but I wanted to share the fact that they do exist.

Now, would you ever wear these? If you had the cash - assume they cost a ton! - would you have a pair of these, I could say painful shoes or would you pass?
Oh, Kudos to the owners of these pics - if its you, tell me and I'll link ya! ;D

My New Vintage Boots and Magazines and some more babbles!

It's 6:38 pm right now and I'm sitting in my comfy bean bag staring at my new Vintage Boots that came in the mail today. They came so cutely packed that I didn't even want to open them! But my bf took charge of that for me, lol. So now all that is left to do is fix some neat outfits to go with them and photoshoot away!

Today was also pretty akward, running errands (today was my day off from work =D) we took the wrong exit on the highway and ended up somewhere totally new! Ok, so yeah, I truly didn't think of it like that when we were on the highway. I freaked out completely, I hate getting lost...
But it was pretty fun; in our little adventure we came across a cute little shopping center with a Borders so we decided to stop by. Of course, you guys already know I'm a fashion freak, so I came out of the store with a few new fashion magazines for inspiration and ideas! =D

Sweet Inspirations on an Enchanted Evening...

Today, I felt a bit dreamy. I wanted to revive my love for bows and frills, for pink and purple. I was seeking inspiration, I grabbed our Lula magazine that we got a few days ago at Borders and sat down to admire all the beautiful colors and textures and I felt so happy inside...

Fringe Boots - What's gonna be new in my closet! - Vintage Clothes!

Ok, I know Fringe Boots were the biggest thing in WINTER! But how I could I say no to a pair of adorable Vintage fringe boots that were yelling "take me home with you!" No, I'm not a compulsive buyer or anything, I'm just in love with Vintage and well for the price ($15.00) I though it would be a crime not to get them.

I bought them at a very sweet shop on Etsy, Sohh. The girl behind it is super sweet and has the cutest sweaters and Vintage finds for sale. (See, I'm NOT a compulsive buyer, if I were I would have bought her whole shop!) But yes, I can't wait 'til they get here, my sis and I are already planning a photoshoot with them! =D No worries, I'll post the pics here so you can get some cool ideas and inspiration for this summer. (Hey, there is no specific season to spice your stuff up with Vintage =p)
Have a great week everyone! XD

Punk Fashion - Fashion 101

So you may (or may not know) that Blink 182 is back in action to Rock the Punk Rock like no one else knows how to! Ok, so yeah I am pretty exited, I mean, I grew up listening to their music and imitating their style; so they are a pretty important part of my teenage memories.

Well, what's punk? It's actually a anti-fashion movement that started in London around the 70's and named after a music genre with the same name. Like most that followed the movement were of low income (mostly school drop outs and unemployed young people), torn clothes, frayed edges, razors used as pendants for chain necklaces and jewelry, tattoos and later on piercings became their trademarks.

Now, punk isn't seen as the same anti-fashion movement as before. It has evolved into a style of it's own.
