I can survive! The Outfit Post

Yes, I survived! I'm tired as heck, my students are still running around even though it's already almost 10 pm (they want to go to the pool and I NEEEED some rest!). But I managed to upload a few outfit shots of what I was wearing today.
Top: Marshalls Plaid Shirt & Old Navy Tank

The girl and her Homesickness...

Today is finally the day! I'll be away from home for 3 days, staying at a neat hotel with students and tutors of the center I work at. It's so funny because I already feel homesick and I haven't left yet! I totally am going to miss my sister and of course my bed and guitar ( I could take the guitar with me but I think that'll annoy my boss or something, so I rather not).

Good thing is I'll be able to take lots of outfit pics (I'm so excited about this) and I'll be able to post regularly in my free time. So, until later tonight!

Oh, a little beach-side inspiration to munch on until I get back:
(I need to upload these to flickr sometime, I took 'em a while ago)

And the Winners are...

It's finally time to let you all know the two lucky winners of my Gossip Headband Giveaway. They were chosen by my sticking my hand in a huge bowl full of everyone's entries and drawn out. ^-^

The Gossip Blair's Black Rose Headband goes to: Amelia!!
The Gossip Blue Dream Headband goes to: MissKellie!!

I'll contacting you for your info soon!

I'll probably post something a little later, I'm off to a busy day at the mall, still have to shop for essentials for my trip this Monday.

A Singer's Voice...

Though a few decades have passed, in the room you could feel the air of yesterday. It was as if time stopped just for that little cottage deep in the mountains of Puerto Rico. Visiting the Hacienda Buena Vista (which used to be one of the greatest coffee producers in the island) with the kids from the tutoring center I work at, I spotted this beautiful Vintage Singer sewing machine in incredible condition in their summer cottage house. Now, this place became a sort of museum so the house and coffee plantation aren't in use anymore; I'll be posting more pics of the house and the beautiful scenery later on. Isn't the machine a beauty? I'd love to have that in my room!

Watching the Sea Wash Up on the Shore...

In only 6 days from today, I'll be walking by the sea, relaxing under the sun and having a sweet Strawberry Frappé with my 25 students, 4 teachers and my boss at the Double Tree by Hilton Ok, I take back the relaxing part; last year and the one before that I only slept 4 hours in 3 days! You need to keep all your eyes open, teens can be a tad wild when they are away from their parents. I'm pretty excited because I got the neatest clothes to wear and even got a cute little tripod to take pics of my outfits (yay, the hotel has wireless connection so I'll be able to post them all!). Today, I just want to share some pics of the clothes I got online and some other pics of the hotel I'll be staying at. Hope you enjoy! And tell me if you like the clothes. ^-^

I'm wearing this dress the last night, we always go to Chili's. I'm matching them with a black scarf tied around my neck and a white tee, some black tights & cute black shoes, or the boots below, I'd like to add a little grundge to it, need help deciding.
I'm stealing this look, I'm wearing a similar plaid shirt in blue, red and white and some shorts (not too short, just a little above the knee) and some comfy converses if I don't find any Gladiator sandals in time.
This tee will be worn for dinner the first day, it's an informal, totally casual dinner (it's probably pizza), match with some confy denim shorts, filp-flops and a choclotale brown belt.
I'll be sleeping in that!! Ok, I get to share the room with the Spanish Teacher, Liz. She has had to put up with my sad photoshooting obsession in past ocassions so she's pretty much used to it, I hope. =D
The view from my window! Or maybe, if I don't get the other side!

The Ultra Plaid Fixation

Lately I've been incredibly addicted to plaid, I've seen them all over stores this Summer in different forms; dresses, shirts, skirts and even in shoes. I've always been fascinated by it, but this time it's hitting me harder than ever. These incredible pics were taken by random photographers (that in my opinion are awesome!), all of them link to their source. Enjoy my summer fixation!

The Vintage Hair Look - How to get dreamy, vintage pin curls

Summer is here and along with that comes our busy schedule of family reunions, outings, summer dresses and sandals. So, we have any time left to deal with our wild, dry hair? The answer is not really. So, a very sweet way to wear your hair this summer that would totally flatter any outfit for absolutely any occasion is with Vintage Pin Curls! I was trying it out myself (yes, today was a pretty boring Saturday) and jotted down the procedure so you can all try it too. Here goes!

You'll need:
A comb
Bobby Pins
Some curling gel or lotion (depending on your hair type)
Hairspray
A light scarf or hair wrap

1) Wash your hair and condition it as you usually do and towel dry it. If it's all tangled, comb it gently. Also, if your hair is naturally straight/fine, find a nice curling gel or lotion and apply in this step.

2) Take moderate strands of hair and curl them tightly around your index finger from the tip to your scalp. Roll the curl off your finger and use a bobby pin or two to secure it to your head.

3) Keep repeating step 2 with the rest of your hair, do curls in different directions to add some fun to your hair.

4) Keep the curls for several hours or over night, wrapped in a scarf or a comfortable fabric wrap.

5) Remove them and fix them around with your fingers, spray some hairspray and but a pretty flower on it and voila!

Hope your curls turn out super sweet!! =D

Wearing Eco-Friendly is as Important as being Eco-Friendly

With all the hassle of being Green and Sustainable, companies are going crazy finding out ways to market their products to people; redesigning packages and adding "eco" to every tag they can and not really paying much attention to their products themselves, as in if they are safe and healthy for the environment.

Same thing is occurring with fashion, companies are trying to cut waste and such, but they don't pay much attention to the environmental impacts their product causes for example, using real skins, fur, etc.

Shopping online I found this cool shoe company that totally caught my "eco-eye". Simple Shoes is a brand of shoe wear that uses green and sustainable materials to make shoes. Materials like hemp and organic cotton are used to make men, woman and kids' shoes and they even make bags too!

So, if you are an environmentalist (*waves to us*), a vegan or just a nature lover, I say give these shoes a look! They are a tad expensive though, but hey, Mother Earth deserves a break and there is always the sale section! =D

When you run out of gas... (little ideas and tips for fashion bloggers)

Coming up with fashion ideas to blog about almost every day is a tremendous task. Sometimes we do run out of ideas even though we hang around with a little notepad writing down everything that comes to mind. I'm thankful because I know that my readers appreciate every little tip and advice that I can offer in this insignificant corner of the world. So to you all, my most sincere thanks. *kissies and huggies*

So when us fashion bloggers run out of gas ( ideas to write about ), sometimes it's a tad hard to find something to inspire us to write. I prepared a list of ideas just in case one of us ever needs to be delivered from fashion writer's block:

1. If you can't write, inspire. Post pics of anything that inspires you; old movies, clothes, shoes,
books.
2. You usually write about what you wear, write about what you wouldn't!
3. Give some advice. Write about a garment and how it should be worn, etc.
4. Write about your fave magazine, t.v. show, band, etc. and their fashion and style.
5. Feature another blog. This is also a great idea to bond between blogs.
6. Write about your fashion faux pas.
7. Search for cool items and make a little wish list and post about it.
8. Browse around for fashion news and fix up a little article.

Oh, little reminder to enter my blog giveaway, just click on the picture on the top left!

Doesn't she look adorable! I'm in love with her gloves. =D
PS: sorry for the short post, been awfully tired. We had a long field trip today at work and I need to grab some shut eye, so I'll be back tomorrow with a decent post okay? Love you all!

My Love and Me...

My love and me walk under the blue, blue skies and dance on the green, green grass...
We'll save the world with our hands, gracefully make it ours...
Then kindly give it back to the Universe and rest side by side. He'll give me some flowers and then smile,We'll run home and hug good bye.
All images are from Vogue Girl Korea, aren't they adorable! I needed a dose of Asian fashion. =D

Why do guys wear Ties? - Fashion History of the Tie and some tips

A Little History: The tie concept has been with us for more than 2000 years. In China, warriors would wear a special silk cord around their necks that enhanced their social status. Croatian mercenaries wore kerchiefs in bright colors also around their necks; later on because of the 30 Year War and the recruiting of Croatian soldiers, the tie was brought to France and received a name: the Cravat. The tie grew so popular that even King Louis XIV appointed an official tie maker and tier, and by the 17th century the trend had reached all Europe. In the 20th century, a tailor named Jesse Langsdorf designed what we know as the modern tie, with a 45 degree angle cut that has excellent drape and elasticity.

Now, how to use a tie? In our era now both men and women wear ties to add flair, sophistication and status to their attires. Of course woman's ties are thinner than men ties, to add that extra touch of delicacy. We can team them up with casual, formal or work attire, there is no restrictions! There are many different types of knots for different types of tie length, but they all add a singular feel to an outfit. So, do you rock ties??
Ah, a little reminder to join my Gossip headband giveaway, it ends on the 26th of June!

Scoliosis can be Fashionable!

Yesterday, I was pretty down. Actually I thought my world would come to an end; the studies confirmed both my sister and I had mild lumbar dextroscoliosis, which means our backs are crooked to the right side in the lower back area. The deviation isn't that bad (thank God) only 13 degrees. (It's funny how we both have the same deviation degree and all).

The doctor said it was most probable to be hereditary and we've lived our whole lives with the condition. We were referred to a chiropractor and preventive care (and I have to take some vitamins and stuff for the disks - it's a pretty cool natural treatment and I'm feeling a tad better from the lower back discomfort) .

Just a while ago I decided to browse around the internet for info on the condition and found out I was not alone, a lot of musicians, actresses and even models and athletes suffer scoliosis. So in support of all those that have this condition, I dedicate today's blog post to them :

Kurt Cobain
Elizabeth Taylor
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Vanessa Williams

Fashion 101 -Sweet Dressing Tips for Petite Women!!

Being only 4'11'' tall has it's pros and cons. Pro: you can find cheaper clothes. Con: that is if you can find something to wear that will flatter you. It is the burden us petite girls must carry!

Petite women are those that are 5'4'' or under. Why is it such a pain to dress us? Happens to be that clothing designed for the average sized women (5'6'') just won't fit us and/or will make us look weird. The average sized woman has longer torsos, arms and legs, so us smaller women will look like we were playing dress up in our granny's closet.

Now how should Petites wear their style with pride? Follow these few tips!
  • If you are going for pants, try wearing straight-legged pants/jeans because they elongate your legs and give them a nice shape. Boot-cut and flair pants make a petite woman seem smaller.
  • When dressing never ever wear a big belt on your waist or any garment that cuts you up in half, it will make you look bigger around the waist area and of course shorter.
  • Avoid jackets with big shoulders and over sized and under sized clothing. You need clothes that fit right and accentuate your body properly, not exaggerate any feature.
  • Stay away from calf/ankle length skirts, keep them on or above the knee to give your legs a longer look.
  • If you like heels, go for anything smaller than 3-2 inches. If you wear anything taller that that you just won't have a natural feel or look. Also, pointy shoes are great because the add some kind of visual illusion that grants you some height.
  • Dress monochrome! Ok, not that you'll be dressing in blacks every day, but try to combine your colors so they aren't that far apart, because if you do then you'll be cutting yourself in half and appearing shorter.
  • Vertical lines good, Horizontal Lines bad. Vertical lines add that height visual illusion, the viewer has to look up and down, now with horizontal lines the viewer gets to look side by side and that makes us look wider.
Hope these few tips help out! They are just some ideas I follow when dressing up, for any other occasion I just wear random stuff!
'Til next blog! =)

How to make an easy Hippie Headband out of a T-shirt (DIY tutorial)

Hi everyone! Being bored at home this weekend gave me some ideas that I just had to try out. I've been wanting to make hippie headbands for a while but as I am a tad broke and scarce in faux suede, I decided to look around my room for substitutes. So, all you recycling and reusing fans (me included) we'll use a forgotten t-shirt to make one!

Here are the materials you'll need:

An old t-shirt (I'm using a really old 4th of July shirt)
Scissors
A big heavy book
Any beads you'd like to have in it

Cut 3 strands of about 1/2 an inch (or as thick as you'd like your band to be)
Take all the strands and cut them (you should have 3 really long strands after this step)
Tie a knot on one side to gather all the strands together.
And start to braid! If you want beads in your band, just loop them through one strand and keep braiding. PS: that is what the heavy book is for XD

Tie a knot at the end (but wrap it around your head and check if it fits) And Voila! You have a new hippie headband to match with your boho summer trends!
