Marc Jacobs meets Clarissa Explains it All

Neon, crazy styled tights, oversized shirts, wild hair, awesome yet strange prints, polka dots and stripes and plaid all in the same outfit; this is all yelling the 90's to me.
As a child that grew up in that era, I must say I was tortured ehh dressed this way by my mother who insisted I looked adorable and that I should stop complaining.
Now looking back, I'm glad I was forced into dressing like this; it was actually pretty cool!

Marc Jacobs' S/S 2010 collection is screaming 90's hot neon colors and wacky prints, this neat bag of his totally caught my eye; and as other bloggers are saying; it yells out Clarissa!

For those that may not know, Clarissa Explains it All was a great show aired in the early 90's and who's main character was portrayed by Melissa Joan Heart. I personally loooooved the show, I thought it was so cool to have your best friend climb thru your window instead of using your door. =)

Did your mom torture you with any style???

  4. I loved that show SO MUCH!! :D

My mom tortured me in elementary school by making me wear these ridiculous printed leggings and cartoon character sweatshirts. I got made fun of quite a lot back then, but the funny thing is, I totally wish I could still dress like that! In fact, if I did, it would probably be considered ironically fashionable or something! :D

  5. Ha, no, I don't remember being tortured... Actually, I remember I started dressing on my own very soon, I think it goes as early as me being 9-10 and putting together my own outfits. I am thankful my mom didn't prevent me from expressing myself back then, even if some of my style choices were very questionable. Like, I started wearing heels really early, looking back I realize maybe it didn't look that cute haha (But at least I learnt how to wear heels early on and practically live in them now) Oh God, thanks for this post, Sophie!! It inspired many cute memories :)

  9. I LOVED that show. I remember wearing an oversize t-shirt held at the side with one of those "t-shirt" clips over leggings. Then, I had on two pairs of bright tube socks slouched down with my hair in a side ponytail. I was SO totally awesome.

  12. My mom let me wear whatever I wanted at a pretty young age... I always ended up looking like a swirly lollipop. Hallucinogenic, but fun.

  13. i swear i was forced to wear french braids everyday from age 5 to age 9... my mom liked doing my hair so much, since i was the only girl. ugh. maybe that's why i avoid them so much now...

  20. I never got tortured by my mom because I always picked random weirdness on my own. lol And if I'd had the guts (I sooo didn't), I would have dressed like Clarissa every day. As it was, I DID win a copy of the Clarissa Explains it All cd from Bop Magazine. Oh, yeah, I was THAT cool.

  24. This post brings back such great memories. I loved Clarissa Explains It all! All I remember about dressing in the '90 was I always tried to copy my older sister's style. She was in middle school, so yeah, it was great... :-)

  30. Those bright colours make me excited XDDD
My mum used to put me in those garish, poofy lace floral dresses when I was younger. Apparently I always insisted on wearing it though haha!

  31. Actually, I do not recall she insisting me about a particular style. I didn´t like how I dressed when i was little. Like every other girl, I guess.

  34. Hahahah. I love the 90s. Well, I don't really remember them, seeing as I was, at oldest, 7 years old. But still. There's something about it. The grunge feel perhaps.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  38. The nostalgia - that's the thing that gets me the most, often when I look at old photos it's not just the memories and the people, but I sometimes think "omg look at my awesome clothes", some of the stuff I used to have - rainbow-coloured gumboots, sparkly iron-on decal t-shirts, and glow-in-the-dark velcro sneakers...I remember the Clarissa show, first thing I thought when I saw it was 'Punky Brewster of the 1990's'. Both were great shows :)
